Intel Global Challenge is a global business plan-driven competition that encourages developers to use computing technology to solve some of the world's most pressing problems. The competition provides a unique entrepreneurial experience for participating teams by providing access to top venture capitalists and investors in Silicon Valley.

Intel Foundation awarded a total of $100000 in cash awards, including a $50000 Grand Prize and three $10000 First Prizes: Computing for Internet, Mobile and Software; Computing for Social Innovation; and Hardware and Computing, in addition to four $5,000 Special Prizes.

28 teams from more than 20 countries and regions participated in the Intel Global Challenge-Berkeley Finals held at the Haas School of Business. The final team stood out from more than 18000 participating teams from more than 60 countries and regions around the world. Three entrepreneurial teams from China-Tsinghua University Weak Water Infinity Team, Sichuan University DreamZ Team and Shandong University Star Nuclear Technology Team participated in the 2013 Intel Global Challenge-Berkeley Finals. Their entrepreneurial projects mainly cover environmental governance, electronic information and mobile Internet. The weak water infinite team from Tsinghua University focuses on heavy metal pollution control, and can tailor professional treatment plans for different heavy metal wastewater and heavy metal contaminated soil. The DreamZ team of Sichuan University independently developed the Bluetooth 4.0 indoor precise positioning system, which has the advantages of low power consumption, low cost, instantaneous start-up, high precision, safer encryption and wider radiation range. Xinghe Science and Technology Team is from Shandong University, the campus intelligent management system developed by it has been put into trial operation in Jushan Road Primary School in Zaozhuang, Shandong Province. Parents can see the real-time situation of their children in the school through video online. The unique mode realizes safety monitoring, information viewing and data sharing.

Intel Global Challenge was launched in 2005 by Intel and the University of California, Berkeley, Leicester Entrepreneurship Center. This challenge aims to encourage young entrepreneurs to develop innovative technologies to solve real-world problems, establish feasible business models and market technological achievements.
